Middle East Conflict – what does it mean for us

You notice it when your groceries suddenly cost more than they did a few months ago, or when deliveries take longer than expected. These small everyday changes are part of a much bigger shift happening across the world.

Everyone has noticed it: fuel prices have sharply increased, and the cost of goods in general has gone up across the entire supply chain. What used to be stable and predictable has become more expensive and uncertain.

Higher fuel prices have made shipping much more costly. Moving products by ship, truck, or container now takes more time and more money. This affects everything in the dairy world, from raw materials to finished goods. Deliveries are less predictable, and planning has become more difficult for everyone involved.

At the same time, the cost of producing milk keeps rising. Farmers pay more for fertilizer, feed, packaging, and equipment. In many cases, milk prices do not increase at the same pace as costs, which puts pressure on margins and negatively affects farm profitability. Farmers are squeezed between higher expenses and limited ability to pass those costs along.

Even with all these challenges, we keep adapting. TechMix works closely with partners, continuously improves logistics, and carefully manages costs wherever possible. We understand that everyone in the supply chain is feeling the pressure, which is why we do our best to keep pricing fair and avoid passing unnecessary costs on to customers. The dairy industry has always had to adjust to change, and this is another difficult moment that requires flexibility and cooperation from everyone involved.

With Iran and the US reportedly agreeing to a ceasefire and the Strait of Hormuz expected to reopen, the situation still remains uncertain. Once conditions eventually improve — although the timing is still unclear — fuel prices are expected to decrease again, which should help reduce shipping costs and restore more stability to the market. Until then, we continue to navigate higher costs and ongoing uncertainty alongside the rest of the industry, while remaining committed to fair partnerships and responsible pricing.

Sustainability

When people talk about sustainability in dairy farming, the first thing that often comes to mind is packaging or reducing plastic. But on the farm itself, sustainability goes much deeper than that. It is really about how efficiently we use the most important resource in the system: the cow.

We see sustainability increasingly as a balance between environmental care and biological efficiency. One of the biggest opportunities lies in improving animal health so cows can perform better throughout their lifetime. Healthier cows are simply more efficient cows. They convert feed into milk more effectively, need fewer medical interventions, and are better able to handle stress from housing, feed changes, or climate conditions.

A key part of this is reducing the need for antibiotics through prevention rather than treatment. When cow health is optimized through better nutrition, gut health support, and management practices, cows are less likely to get sick in the first place. This means fewer interventions are needed, which supports both animal welfare and long-term farm resilience. Another key part of sustainability is longevity. Healthier cows that stay productive longer complete more lactations, reducing the need to replace animals. Fewer replacements mean lower costs for raising young stock, less resource use, and better farm profitability per liter of milk.

This is where the TechMix Global products like YMCP Vitall, BlueLite, and calf solutions such as Calf Renova, BlueLite Replenish, and Respirex come into play to support fresh cow health, heat stress resilience, and strong calf development. Together, these solutions support a more sustainable approach to dairy farming by strengthening animal performance at every stage of life, from calf to mature cow.

New Insights into Heat Stress Physiology & the Impact of Bovine BlueLite®

Heat stress remains a major challenge in dairy production, affecting feed intake, milk production, and overall cow performance. When temperatures and humidity rise, cows use more energy to regulate body temperature, placing additional stress on metabolism and productivity.

Bovine BlueLite been evaluated as a nutritional strategy to support cows during heat stress. A University of Florida study (Onan-Martinez et al. 2023) showed that BlueLite helped cows stay cooler, with rectal temperature reductions of up to 0.5°C under high THI conditions.

The study also demonstrated improved energy utilization, including higher glucose availability, maintained insulin levels, and reduced NEFA concentrations. These benefits helped support performance, with improvements of up to 3.1 kg/day ECM and more than 1.5 kg/day higher dry matter intake during heat stress.

By supporting thermoregulation and metabolic balance, BlueLite helps reduce the impact of heat stress and supports productivity during challenging summer conditions.

To help producers prepare for the heat season, we have also created a new heat stress brochure with additional insights and recommendations. You can download the brochure by clicking the button below.

FMD Update: What you might need to know

Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) is back on the radar in Europe after several quiet years. While we saw some Serotype O cases in Germany and Central Europe last year that were quickly contained, the real talk right now is the SAT1 serotype. Historically rare in the West, SAT1 has moved from the Near East into Turkey and, most recently, triggered outbreaks in Cyprus and Greece this spring.
What’s the impact?
On the Farm: Expect local supply hitches due to culling, movement restrictions, and logistical headaches like rerouting milk tankers.
Market Prices: While it’s not a food safety issue, “risk premiums” are pushing up prices for butter and milk powders as traders get nervous about supply chains.
Global Shifts: If outbreaks hit major export hubs, we’ll likely see higher global price volatility for tradable dairy commodities.
The main takeaway? Double down on biosecurity and stay sharp on clinical signs

Strengthening Partnerships Through Innovation

In early April, a selected group of internal and external participants was invited by Lallemand Animal Nutrition to Toulouse, France for an ideation workshop. Representing TechMix were David, Niko, Rodrigo, and Sjors. Together, participants explored the world of yeast technology and its role in animal nutrition.

One of the highlights of the visit was learning more about the production of Levucell SC live yeast and its benefits for rumen function and fiber digestion. The workshop provided valuable insights and practical knowledge that will help support animal health, intake, and performance.

We would like to thank Lallemand for hosting an excellent learning experience and for the strong collaboration between our teams. The event further strengthened the close relationship between TechMix Global and Lallemand as we continue working together to support producers worldwide.

Meeting WWS in Northern Ireland

In May, we welcomed the World Wide Sires UK leadership team for a strategic meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and aligning growth plans for the UK market. Attendees included Ervin McKinstry, Dan Warman, Ben Nottage, and Alex Evington.

The UK dairy sector continues to prioritize efficiency, animal health, and sustainability, creating strong opportunities for TechMix solutions in transition cow management, calf health, and recovery. The meeting resulted in clear action plans and renewed momentum to grow together in the UK market.

Antonella Della Badia Highlights YMCP Vitall at Anembe

At the Anembe Congress, Antonella Della Badia presented findings on YMCP Vitall® in Holstein dairy cows under commercial conditions in the Czech Republic. In a study of 80 cows, those receiving YMCP Vitall at calving produced significantly more milk during the first 11 weeks postpartum than cows given a calcium-only bolus. Clinical mastitis incidence was also numerically lower, suggesting benefits for productivity and health.
