There are times when your dog needs extra energy or help to recover.  K9 Restart is the all-in-one product you can use to help make your hard-working dog its best.  For the canine athlete it can be used at all stages of activity. If you are looking to prime your dog with pre-workout energy, enhance performance during a workout or maximize recovery after the activity, K9 Restart is the perfect product for your dog.  For digestive issues caused by stress, travelling, or post-surgery, K9 Restart can be used to help stabilize the gut and allow it to better absorb essential nutrients.

K9 Restart contains a specialized blend of carbohydrates to provide the needed energy to maximize performance and replace the loss of key nutrients.  In addition, it contains high-quality proteins and amino acids necessary to replenish and repair the body.  K9 Restart helps to keep your dog’s intestinal tract working to break down and deliver vital performance nutrition with an unique blend of digestive enzymes and gut stabilizers.

  • Use before and after working, hunting, or other physically demanding activity
  • When whelping
  • When sick
  • During travelling
  • Post-surgery

Carbohydrates, Energy Sources, Protein, Amino Acids

K9 Restart is a highly palatable blend of electrolytes, protein, carbohydrates and micronutrients for use in dehydrated, sick, heat stressed, working and whelping dogs. The proprietary formulation of K9 Restart makes it an ideal supplement for dogs of all ages under these conditions. The product can be easily mixed with water to provide a healthy “milkshake” or simply top dressed over the dog food.

Most hospitalized dogs, working dogs and whelping bitches will have some degree of subclinical or clinical dehydration. This dehydration can allow the build-up of toxic compounds such as lactic acid in the body and often impairs immune function. K9 Restart provides multiple electrolytes and energy sources at the correct pH to ensure good absorption into the animal. The pleasant taste of K9 Restart will encourage water intake in most dogs, which will generally improve kidney function and reduce the chance of clinical dehydration problems.

Depending on the severity of the dehydration, many of these dogs also exhibit abnormal electrolyte profiles. Cations such as sodium, potassium and calcium promote blood buffering as well as increase muscle tone and organ function.

The multiple sources of carbohydrates in the formula ensure a quick supply of energy to dogs eating or drinking K9 Restart. In hospitalized or post surgery dogs, the energy from K9 Restart may be the only source of energy the animal receives. In working dogs, the constant supply of carbohydrates will minimize glycogen breakdown and lactic acid buildup. Research has shown that muscle cells are more efficient at absorbing carbohydrates immediately after they become depleted than they are even 2 hours after the exercise. This explains why athletic or working dogs will be more prepared to work the next day if they are given carbohydrates such as are in K9 Restart during and immediately after working.

TechMix uses a combination of natural proteins from animal plasma, milk and whey. These protein sources have amino acid profiles very similar to canine plasma, and can be easily utilized by dogs with compromised organ function. In working dogs, this constant supply of protein will help them work longer without beginning to break down other sources of protein for body function.

K9 Restart uses whey as one of the sources of highly digestible nutrients. Because the occasional dog is sensitive to lactose in the lower gut, TechMix has added pure lactase enzyme to the formula to ensure normal gut function and the proper utilization of lactose.

Chelated minerals are minerals that have been complexed with other nutrients (most commonly amino acids) for improved absorption into the body. In hospitalized or sick dogs that are not eating enough quality dog food, these minerals should help maintain enzyme, hormone and immune function within the body. K9 Restart provides copper, zinc, manganese and iron proteinates to promote blood formation and maintain organ function.

Tricalcium phosphate is a readily absorbable form of calcium that is derived from milk instead of mined from the earth. This form of calcium has been shown in research to be more absorbable and bioavailable to the animal. Milk calcium also does not contain inert and foreign ingredients that are commonly found in calcium sources mined from the earth. The addition of milk calcium to the formula makes K9 Restart an ideal product to use pre and post whelping. Bitches at this stage can benefit from increased levels of bioavailable calcium to help head off the potential of eclampsia (hypocalcaemia).

Hospitalized or recovering dogs:
Dogs that have had surgery, prophylactic or reconstructive dentistry, injuries, or most infectious diseases will have varying amounts of dehydration and cachexia. Four tablespoons of K9 Restart per pint of drinking water will stimulate water intake and stabilize the electrolyte profile. One (small dogs) to two teaspoons (large dogs) of powder top dressed over the feed daily will providenecessary nutrients as well as stimulate feed intake.
Sporting dogs: Dogs that are working hard (hunters, sled dogs, etc.) for long periods of time will benefit from drinking small amounts of water containing 4 heaping tablespoons per pint of water throughout the workout. Allow free choice water during and after the workout as needed. Topdressing two teaspoons of powder on the feed after the workout will speed recovery and prepare the dog for the next workout.
Whelping dogs: Dogs that are about to whelp or who have just whelped tend to be dehydrated and have erratic feed intake patterns just at the time when milk production is beginning. Eclampsia (hypocalcaemia) may also be a problem soon after this period. One to two heaping tablespoons daily on the feed for one week pre-whelping until two weeks post-whelping will help stabilize calcium metabolism, promote rehydration and provide some energy and protein for the bitch who is not eating enough good quality food.
Exercising dogs: Dogs that occasionally do short bursts of intense exercise (jogging with owners, etc.) should benefit from the pH balanced electrolytes in K9 Restart. These dogs may actually be under more physiological stress than dogs that are conditioned for more prolonged work. Four heaping tablespoons of powder mixed into one pint of drinking water should shorten the recovery times for these dogs and promote more water intake.

The proprietary blend of electrolytes, carbohydrates, proteins and micronutrients in K9 Restart make it an ideal formulation for many different dogs. Healthy dogs that would benefit from preventing some of the effects of overwork and exercise should take K9 Restart before, during and after their exercise programs. Most sick or hospitalized dogs will maintain blood electrolytes and consume more food when supplemented with K9 Restart.

Q: Are hydration products only needed when the weather is hot? When should I give my dog hydration products?
A: Hydration products are very good for dogs when the weather is hot, but it’s not the only time that they can benefit from consuming them. Interestingly, dogs are very susceptible to dehydration in the winter months as well. Due to the nature of that time of year, a lot of moisture is lost through the normal breathing process as the respiratory tract moistens the air, combined with the fact that fresh water is not as readily available. Hydration products should be given to a dog any time that the dog has been working hard or exercising, regardless of the weather conditions. Dogs are much like humans in this way – when it’s hot or when you’ve been working hard, you get thirsty. The K9 BlueLite and K9 Restart family of products provides the dog with the hydration it needs, but also gives the added benefits of electrolytes that allow for quick recovery and continued high level of performance. It is highly palatable and encourages dogs to consume the liquid and nutrients that they need.

Q: What are the differences between all TechMix canine hydration products?
A: All of the products in the K9 BlueLite and K9 Restart lines provide dogs with a source of quick energy, enzymes to help stabilize a dog’s digestive system, and balanced electrolytes to ensure absorption which promotes hydration. Some of the products are more highly concentrated than others – as a rule, anything in a powdered form will contain more highly concentrated ingredients. The primary difference is in the method of delivery, and will probably be the biggest factor in the products you choose. For example, if you are giving K9 BlueLite to twenty dogs, we’d recommend buying the 1.75 lb. jar. If you are on the road and want to have K9 BlueLite in a form that is conducive to travel, we’d recommend the K9 BlueLite Single Dose packs that can be poured into a bottle of water for convenient mixing.
