Swine Acid-O-Lite is a palatable, water soluble acidified electrolyte specifically designed to treat or prevent shrink and dehydration in swine of all ages. The high level of electrolytes and acidification makes Swine Acid-O-Lite ideal and applicable as part of management programs for weaning and prior to shipment of both young and mature swine.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Administer Swine Acid-O-Lite in the drinking water when pigs show signs of shrink or dehydration or 1 to 3 days prior to weaning, sorting or  transporting pigs.  Administer at the following rates for 4 to 5 days
Medicator Use: Mix one packet (8 oz or 227 grams) in water to make one gallon of stock solution. Set medicator at the rate of one ounce of stock solution per gallon of drinking water (1:128 ratio).
Stock Tanks: Mix one packet (8 oz or 227 grams) in 128 gallons of drinking water.

FLUID-ELECTROLYTE BALANCE
Water represents over 75 percent of the young piglet’s body weight and over 50% of the body weight of mature pigs.

Electrolytes serve as the primary way in which the body balances its fluids in the three compartments of the body where fluid is stored. Through the electrolytes and their osmotic pressure, the body fluids are maintained at proper levels between the fluid inside the cell (intracellular), the fluid between cells (interstitial) and the fluid in the blood vascular system. Without adequate water and electrolytes, the body cannot maintain its proper fluid balance between the compartments resulting in tissue shrink or dehydration. 

Dehydration of the cells and tissue leads to reduced growth, impaired maintenance and can result in death when the body looses between 7 to 15% of its normal body fluid. Young pigs, which have a high proportion of body fluid, are very subject to severe dehydration that contributes to the moderate to high mortality whenever theyare exposed to stress and disease. Enteric infections caused by E. coli, TGE and rotavirus quickly  dehydrate the body as fluids are lost from the loose, diarrhea conditions of the stools. This dehydration from the diarrhea makes the young piglet subject to shock and death in a matter of minutes or several hours.

ELECTROLYTE FORTIFICATION
Swine Acid-O-Lite is a multiple electrolyte formula that provides five electrolytes to help maintain fluids in the cell as compared to many electrolyte formulas which only provide two or three electrolytes. Swine Acid-O-Lite provides three essential cations—potassium, magnesium and sodium and two anions—phosphate and chloride. These multiple sources of electrolytes help the fluids in the blood vessels, tissues and cells of the body because they are readily absorbed from the intestinal tract. Swine Acid-O-Lite was specially designed to assure rapid absorption of the electrolytes.

WATER ACIDIFICATION
The young pig has a limited ability to secrete acid in its digestive tract. E. coli are known to proliferate and grow in the digestive tract when the pig doesn’t produce enough acid to maintain the proper pH. Swine Acid-O-Lite was specifically designed to promote gut acidification in a palatable and safe manner. The acidifier used in Swine Acid-O-Lite has been proven repeatedly to be highly palatable and effective for swine of any age.

FEED MIXING
Add 1.5 lbs. (three 8 oz. packets) of Swine Acid-O-Lite to each ton of complete swine feed. Use Swine Acid-O-Lite in the feed for 7 days or until pigs no longer show signs of shrink or dehydration, or until feed intake has returned to normal.

FIELD RESULTS
Swine Acid-O-Lite has been field tested in pigs at weaning and as an aid for improving consumption and absorption of commonly used water medications. Swine Acid-O-Lite can increase weight gain and reduce shrink of pigs following the stresses of weaning and transportation. Pigs will consume more water when Swine Acid-O-Lite is added to the water. Adequate water intake is necessary for optimum feed intake and efficient growth performance. Initial results show that finishing pigs given Swine Acid-O-Lite 24 hours before shipment had improvement in carcass yield and reduced shrink.

STORAGE DIRECTIONS
Store in a dry room at temperatures between 4º C and 30º C (40º F - 86º F). Once bag is opened, seal with tape or binder and placed unused portion of Swine Acid-O-Lite in a dry air sealable container.

LIVESTOCK PRODUCT & PRECAUTION STATEMENT
Pigs showing symptoms of coma, shock or too weak and dehydrated to eat normally should be treated by a veterinarian. This product is not nutritionally complete if administered by itself for long periods of time. It should not be administered beyond the recommended period without the addition of milk, milk replacers or prestarter pellets to young pigs or an appropriate ration for older pigs.
